15th April- PIG KEEPING FOR MEAT AND SAUSAGE MAKING
Our pig keeping and sausage making experience will cover the legal and practical aspects of keeping and eating pigs from purchase to sausage making. You will be able to get hands on experience with our pigs, have a go at making sausages and of course leave with some to take home. You will learn about rules and regulations relating to moving and keeping pigs; how to choose your pigs; how to care for your pigs; preparing for the abattoir- paperwork and loading; tools and equipment needed for sausage making and how to make sausages by hand.
13th May- BEE KEEPING IN TOP BAR HIVES- AN INTRODUCTION
This experience will introduce you to the concepts of natural or sustainable bee keeping using a top bar hive. You will learn about the natural life cycle of bees and colony structure; how to get bees, maintain a healthy population, feeding, honey production and collection. You will also learn about other hive products and uses i.e beeswax, propolis. There will be practical demonstration of handling bees and carrying out hive maintenance and the chance for you to practice the skills and use the equipment needed.
