DofE for additional needs

DofE Expeditions for Participants with Additional Needs

At Peat Rigg, we believe the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award should be accessible to every young person. As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP), we specialise in delivering high-quality, inclusive DofE expeditions that are tailored to meet a wide range of additional needs without compromising on challenge, achievement, or adventure.

Our highly trained and experienced team is here to support every stage of the expedition journey training, practice, and qualifying ensuring a safe, meaningful, and empowering experience for all participants.

Our unique onsite environment enables young people to complete their Expedition section within a safe, structured space. This flexible approach gives leaders the ability to set challenges that align with the ethos and aims of the Award, while remaining fully adaptable to individual needs and abilities.

Expedition activities can include:

  • Bushcraft and survival skills

  • Canoeing or paddleboarding on our private lake

  • Photography and creative projects

  • Ecology, horticulture, and animal care on our working farm

  • Mountain bike maintenance and workshop sessions

For groups who want to explore beyond the centre, Peat Rigg’s location in the North York Moors National Park provides stunning, accessible terrain for local walks and wheelchair-friendly expeditions.

With over 30 years’ experience in outdoor learning and a reputation for delivering expert programmes with a person-centred approach. Peat Rigg offers an exceptional setting for young people to thrive whatever their starting point.
